REDUCE EYE PUFFINESS

Reduce Eye Puffiness

Why you get it:

Alcohol and allergies, too little or too much sleep, all of which can lead to fluid retention; gravity that pulls lids down; and genetics. Young: "Get a good night's sleep," recommends Bank, "with your head elevated to drain away puffiness." Any irritant can make eyes puff up, so Sobel suggests that you also switch to a moisturizer formulated specifically for around the eyes: "They have fewer irritating preservatives and perfumes." Try Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum, $19; Phytomer Eye Contour Cream, $40. Younger: Lasers, such as the Erbium and the CO2, are often used to perk up the eye area. Explains Bank, "The laser gets the skin and the underlying collagen to contract a bit for a tightening effect." Laser resurfacing is surgery and will usually be done under local anesthesia. The downtime is about one week, during which you'll be icky and oozy. The cost is $1,000 to $3,000. Youngest: When you hear people talking about having an "eye job," they're referring to a blepharoplasty. In this procedure, the excess skin from your eyelids and the fat pads under your eyes are cut out, then the area is restitched. You can have an upper and/or lower bleph, which can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $4,000, each with a week's recovery time.
